What's New at MVSD?

Celebrating American Wetlands Month

MVSD manages the McNabney Marsh and the Moorhen Marsh, 151 acres of wetlands and wildlife haven alongside Interstate 680 in Martinez.  In celebration of the American Wetlands Month, MVSD hosts the following activities and events:

  • Celebration billboard: Wetlands... where land and water meet, where life and spirit connect!
  • FREE Birding Field Trip on Saturday, May 1, 2010, 9:00 - 11:00 AM.  Join the Mt. Diablo Audubon Society for a fun and informative hike around the McNabney and Moorhen Marsh systems as we look for our favorite avian residents and migrants.  See the flyer for more details.
  • From garbage to garden, it's composting time!  FREE Home Composting Workshop on Saturday, May 22, 2010, 9 AM to 11 AM.  Learn how to make your own  compost.  Reserve seat by calling Dorothy at (800) 750-4096 ext. 2, or send an email to cccrecycle@yahoo.com.
  • "Peyton Slough Wetlands: the Crown Jewel of Contra Costa County" 15-minute video about the history of Peyton Slough Wetlands, including McNabney Marsh, will be aired on Contra Costa TV on: Friday, April 30, at 5:30 PM; Friday, May 14, at 5:30 PM; Friday, May 28, at 5:30 PM.  Contra Costa TV is on Comcast channel 27, Astound channel 32, and AT&T U-Verse channel 99.
