Manhole Repair Replacement

DESCRIPTION:  The project addressed a backlog of known defects and other problems related to manholes.  Many of these issues were discovered in the years immediately preceding the project; however, several dated back further, such as the Pacheco / Arthur intersection manhole, which had been included in the capital improvement program adopted by the Board of Directors in 2016.

The Project fully replaced two deteriorated manholes (along with some adjacent pipe); abandoned eight manholes no longer in use; raised twelve manhole frames and covers to grade; replaced one broken manhole cone; constructed access improvements to one manhole located on private property; rehabilitated seven manholes with new epoxy coatings; performed two pipeline repairs; and made various other minor repairs to manholes at several other sites.

JUSTIFICATION:  Manholes are critically important collection system assets to inspect, maintain, and when necessary, repair, replace, or rehabilitate.  Manholes experience a unique subset of problems such as corrosion, inflow and infiltration, debris / blockages, root intrusion, and poor or no access.

TOTAL PROJECT COST:  $956,941.40
