Organic waste accounts for more than a third of the material in California’s waste stream. Reducing the amount of organic material sent to landfill is part of Senate Bill (SB) 1383’s objective. To support California’s goals, MVSD is diverting biosolids away from landfill to Lystek, a thermal hydrolysis process that reduces organic mass, and generates clean fertilizers, digester enhancements, and carbon alternatives for industry.
