Sewer System Management Plan Audit

The State Water Resources Control Board requires the District to implement a Sewer System Management Plan (SSMP). Internal audits of the District’s SSMP are performed every two years from the last update and re-certification, which was in 2019.

The purpose of the 2021 audit is to evaluate the effectiveness of the SSMP, identify deficiencies and delineate the steps and timeframe to correct them, if necessary. The evaluation of the eleven elements in the SSMP found that they continue to be effective and that there are no notable deficiencies. Nearly all elements were updated to some extent to reflect changes that have occurred (i.e. organizational changes, program updates).

Fall is Here!

You know fall is here when the air starts to cool, and the leaves change colors and fall to the ground. Leaves in streets and gutters add higher than normal nutrients and lower than normal oxygen to local water bodies which can negatively affect the ecosystem.

Coastal Cleanup Successes

The District would like to send a big thank you to the Friends of Alhambra Creek and Contra Costa Resource Conservation District for their cleanup efforts in September.

Open to the Public

We’re excited to re-open Moorhen Marsh to the public. Visiting hours are Mondays through Thursdays, 7 am to 4:30 pm, and Fridays, 7 am to 3:30 pm.

Critter of the Quarter: Great Egret

The International Bird Rescue released two Great Egrets into McNabney Marsh in September. After rehabbing with the Rescue, these birds will now play a part in the Audubon Canyon Ranch Heron and Egret Telemetry Project.

Easement Jetter

The District’s Easement Jetter supports sewer collection pipe maintenance and is configured to enter tight locations and easements.

Sewer Service Charge Rebate Assistance

The Sewer Service Charge Rebate Assistance program offers a 20% discount in the form of a rebate check after all property taxes for the subject parcel have been paid.

We are seeking applications from MVSD customers and residents to participate in a Community Advisory Committee, which will provide input into the District’s long-term plans to continue providing sewer collection and wastewater treatment services to its public.
